THE PROBLEM
Poverty is the single greatest threat to a child’s well-being. 44% of children that live in the US live in low-income families.
9% of adults from families in the lowest income quartile graduate college by 24.
Parents’ educational achievement at a child’s birth is a key factor in childhood poverty persistence.
80% of Hispanic and Black 29-year-olds do not have a college degree.
THE MODEL
Agency is crucial to New City Kids’ growth mindset. Teens are invited and equipped to be employed, trusted leaders in a community of their peers. This agency doesn’t occur in just any community however–it’s a community where four kinds of development are always happening in concert with one another: spiritual, leadership, academic, and musical.
