A Message from Cindy
Dear New City Kids Staff,
As we move through February, I want to take a moment to reflect on the power of partnership and the culture we are building together. New City Kids has always been relationally driven—our foundation is built on deep connections with teens, parents, staff, supporters, funders, and community leaders. This year, we are leaning into that even more, refocusing and solidifying what it means to work hand in hand for the sake of the kids we serve.
We know that when people are better informed, they become better partners. That’s why this newsletter exists—to ensure that as a staff, we are well-equipped with the information we need to fully embrace our roles in loving kids for change. Many hands make light work, and as we lock arms in partnership, we are reminded that this mission is not one we carry alone. It is a collective effort that is strengthened by the many relationships we hold.
One of the most exciting things ahead of us this year is the rollout of our strategic plan. This plan is more than just goals on paper—it is a roadmap for how we will continue to impact the lives of young people and families in a profound way. Together, we will bring clarity to our mission, strengthen our programs, and ensure that every team member understands how their role contributes to the bigger picture.
A huge congratulations to Jessie and the entire New City Kids: Paterson team for the beautiful Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting! It was an unforgettable day as we “officially” opened our doors to a new chapter of impact in Paterson. And a special shout-out to Domineca, Ellie, and the New City Kids: Grand Rapids team on the success of the Lee Street Open House Celebration. It was such a blessing to see so many families and kids come out to enjoy games, try out instruments, explore interest tables, share meals, and learn more about the work we do. I am incredibly thankful for the partnership with Pastor Joel Van Dyke and Pastor Steve DeVries at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, as well as the faithful work of Pastor Trevor and Pastor Linda in nurturing those relationships.
If you haven’t had the chance yet, please take a moment to complete this short survey. Your feedback will help us strengthen our internal communications and ensure this newsletter serves you well.
At the heart of everything we do is our faith. We are called to love, serve, and lead in the way of Jesus. Let us continue to seek God’s wisdom as we pour into the lives of our young people He has entrusted to us. May we be encouraged in our work, knowing that we are not alone in it. Together, we are making an eternal impact—one child, one teen, one family, one partnership at a time.
Blessings,

President & CEO

Pedro Ramos
Building Manager
New City Kids: New Jersey
Can you tell us a little about your background and how you came to NCK?
The way I heard about New City Kids was through invitations from friends who worked there to attend fundraising concerts for the kids. I was deeply touched by watching them perform, especially during the worship time. Years later, when they informed me that NCK needed a building manager, I didn’t hesitate to apply for the position. Before joining NCK, I worked as a project manager for nearly 20 years at a restoration company that dealt with fire, mold, and water damage. I also own a small home improvement company.
How long have you been with NCK, and what do you enjoy most about working here?
I’ve been working at NCK for 7 years. Although I don’t have direct interaction with the kids, the most rewarding part is seeing them grow up and become great leaders. Many of the kids and teens know me and are aware of how my work here helps to create a clean and safe environment for everyone.
What’s one thing about building management that people might not realize?
One thing people might not realize about building management is the extent of preventative maintenance required. Instead of dealing with costly emergencies, we prefer to do regular inspections and maintenance to extend the life of a building and save money in the long run.
How do you ensure the New Jersey facility runs smoothly?
Good communication between the Executive Director, Associate Director, and staff members is vital. Our goal is to be ready for the unexpected.
Can you share a memorable or rewarding moment from your time at NCK?
Year after year, watching the kids graduate is always rewarding to see. Hearing the stories of how NCK impacts the lives of our teens brings joy to my heart.
How do you collaborate with other teams to keep the building safe and efficient?
If something comes up that needs my attention, the staff notifies me so I can take action and resolve the issue.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to watch soccer on the weekends. I’m a big fan of the Premier League.
Do you have a favorite hobby or activity that helps you unwind?
I love to do road trips and travel abroad with my family, especially in the summer. I also enjoy being involved in handyman projects.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Cesar Chavez – because I admire his hard work fighting for civil rights for Hispanics and Filipino farmers in the USA.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Like I said before, I love soccer, and one thing on my bucket list is to be able to attend the Fifa World Cup Final.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Lee Street Open House Recap
On Saturday, February 8, we officially launched New City Kids: Lee Street with an incredible Open House event in the afternoon! Families, kids, community partners, and future teen staff came together to celebrate, connect, and experience the heart of New City Kids.
Guests enjoyed fun activity stations, tried out instruments, played games, and shared great conversations over food. The official program featured an inspiring teen testimony from Marisol Gutierrez, powerful performances from our middle school and teen worship bands, and a warm introduction from Domineca and Ellie.
This event was more than just an opening—it was the beginning of something special for the Lee Street community. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a success. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
